CVV stands for 'Card Verification Value' and is used as an additional security measure on our site. CVV enables banks and credit card companies to run centralized checks to verify ownership of the card. The CVV number verifies that you are the actual owner of this card, similar to a PIN. People may accidentally leave important credit card information lying around (receipts, etc.) and another individual can start doing some Internet shopping. Since the CVV number is never printed on any receipts, you are the only one who knows this number.
